Looking Ahead to the Seminole 2022-23 Seasons

To finish out July, there will be a series of articles about what we can look forward to in the coming school sports year. With the 2021-22 season reviewed and put to bed, now we can look forward to what our sports teams have before them. While some things have changed in people graduating, old coaches leaving and new coaches coming in and UIL realignment – other things have not changed. There will be plenty of familiar faces coming back – both players and coaches. Some teams will be rebuilding and others will be reloading.

EMS Director Adds Another Certification to Her List of Many

Seminole EMS Director Carly French is constantly working to make the local service the best it can be. As a result, French recently earned her Critical Care Paramedic Certification. The International Board of Speciality Certification (IBSC) Critical Care Paramedic Certification is for experienced paramedical professionals working in critical ground care patient transport.

Seminole Teen Not Responsible for Deadly Crash with Golf Team

A fatal collision involving a transit van and a pickup on March 15 killed six University of the Southwest golf team members, their coach, a Seminole man, and his teenage son. Preliminary reports stated the pickup driver that crashed into the team's van was a 13-year-old male. On Thursday, July 17, however, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Investigators announced that DNA testing results indicate that the driver of the pickup was not the 13-year-old but his 38-year-old father, Heinrich Siemens.

Lane Closures Planned for US 62/385 Starting Tuesday, July 19

SEMINOLE – US 62/385 drivers in Seminole can expect lane closures next week as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues work on an $18.8 million road improvements project. Starting Tuesday, July 19, the inside lane of both north- and southbound US 623/385, from County Road (CR) 200 E to 0.5 miles north of CR 104, will be closed to traffic.

Two Wrecks This Week on DC Highway

Texas State Highway 214, also known as the Denver City Hwy, was the site of two wrecks this past week. A Buick Enclave collided with a semi dump truck at the junction of Hwy 214 and CR 218 on the afternoon of July 12. The driver of the Buick was transported by ambulance to the hospital. On the following day, July 13, at approximately 8 a.m, AeroCare of Lubbock responded to a collision between a semi and an SUV on Denver City Hwy, 18 miles outside Seminole. The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle but released by members of the Seminole Volunteer Firefighters Rescue Unit. Seminole EMS tended to the driver while the flight crew waited on the ground in case assistance was needed. Also responding to the emergency call were the Gaines County Sheriff's Office, a Texas Game Warden, and the Denver City Fire Department members and Denver City Police. Local resident injured in wreck that killed three

Seminole resident Israel Gonzalez-Nunez, age 40, was injured July 11 in a collision six miles west of Odessa. According to DPS, another person in the wreck, Adan Castillo-Venzor, was also injured, and three individuals died at the scene. Pronounced dead on location were Keethan James Gould of Farmington, NM, age 40; Rico DeLeon, age 17, of Big Lake; and David Saenz-Cera, 35 years of age of Dumas.

Seagraves Council Discusses Sales Tax for Streets

A portion of the July 11 Seagraves City Council meeting was devoted to discussing a proposition to reauthorize the half-cent sales tax for street maintenance in the November election. Mayor Rick Dollahan said that when the City collects a ½ cent sales tax for street maintenance every four years, it gains the City almost $90,000.
