In last week’s column, we looked at how the very question, what is a woman, has thrown many in our culture into a tailspin. I would rather have watched some fishing show than a documentary where confused “experts” wrestle with such a question. Most fish are too busy dodging hooks to worry much about this gender thing.

Jeffery Dale Keith

Jeffery Dale Keith was born July 11, 1944 in Ralls and was residing in The Woodlands following his retirement. Jeff spent his time in Ralls with his grandparents, Nolan and Mary Keith. He graduated from Ralls High School in 1962. Jeff attended Texas Tech University where he met Elenia King at Horn Dormitory. They were married on December 15, 1963. Jeff and Elenia lived in Seminole for many years where he farmed and raised two daughters, Jana and Aimee. He was often found at the coffee shop in his pickup with his Saint Bernard dog, Bronson. Jeff was always involved in some type of sport or activity. While living in Seminole, he played tennis every Sunday with his tennis buddies, rain or shine. He also enjoyed playing golf and racquetball, scuba diving, and motorcycle enduros. Jeff eventually left farming and moved into the computer and technology business. After leaving Seminole, Jeff and Elenia lived in Odessa; Lexington, Kentucky; and finally settled in The Woodlands.

Fall Sports are on the Starting Line

To finish out July, there will be a series of articles about what we can look forward to in the coming school sports year. With the 2021-22 season reviewed and put to bed, now we can look forward to what our sports teams have before them. While some things have changed in people graduating, old coaches leaving and new coaches coming in and UIL realignment – other things have not changed. There will be plenty of familiar faces coming back – both players and coaches. Some teams will be rebuilding and others will be reloading.

West Texas Organic Cotton and Peanut Tour Set

Working with organic producers, specialists, and researchers, a great organic tour of both peanut and cotton production has been planned for Thursday, September 1st in the Seminole area. Bob Whitney, Extension Organic Program Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Stephenville, will be sponsoring the tour. The tour will start with registration at 8:00 am at the Gaines Co. Civic Building in Seminole at 402 NW 5th Street (Corner of NW 5th and NW Ave. D). The tour will leave at 8:45 am from the Civic Building and return at noon for a sponsored lunch. Two (2) general continuing education credits will be offered on the tour.

CTSI Cyber Security to Begin Servicing all City Offices

Hernandez/Park Win Tourney in Sudden-death

The 2022 Gaines County Memorial Partnership held July 23-24 finished Sunday afternoon with Kale Hughes and Brady Shivers tied with Ruben Hernanadez, Jr. and Blake Park after 54 holes. It took one hole of combined total sudden death to determine the winner. Ruben and Blake scored 3-4 to Kale and Brady’s 4-4.

Wreck Victim Later Dies in Hospital

On July 21, Roswell resident Faustino Garcia died from injuries sustained in a collision occurring July 13 on State Highway 214, one mile south of Denver City. Garcia was taken by ambulance to UMC in Lubbock after the crash and remained there until he died eight days later. He was pronounced dead by Nurse Practitioner Charlotte Harris.
