Ingredients 6 hot dogs 1/2 pound ground beef 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 garlic clove, minced 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce 2-1/2 teaspoons minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce 3/4 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 6 hot dog buns, split 3/4 cup shredded cheddar chees 2 green onions, chopped Directions Cook hot dogs according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook the beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.

Retirees are going back to work-- some to supplement income, others to feel productive

WASHINGTON, DC -- More senior citizens are saying, “I’m too young to retire.” Some simply can’t afford to retire; others remain in the workforce because it makes them feel productive. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that by 2028, nearly one in four seniors 65 years old and older will be working. They’ll be staying on the job or they’ll come out of retirement in search of work that can give them a sense of accomplishment.

Fourth of July cookout to cost consumers more this year

Consumers in Texas and across the country will pay more for a Fourth of July cookout, according to a recent American Farm Bureau Federation marketbasket survey. The national average cost of a summer cookout for 10 people is $69.68, which breaks down to less than $7 per person.

Beating the heat with an ice cream party

With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, Thursday, June 30 was a perfect day for an inside ice cream party. Teens participating in the Gaines County Library Summer Reading Program were treated to ice cream and plenty of toppings to celebrate their reading accomplishments. Magician Harlan Rhodes

Magician Harlan Rhodes entertained and amazed over 150 Gaines County residents with his magic show Wednesday morning in Seminole. Hosted by the Gaines County Library System, Harlan not only performed astonishing tricks at the civic building but also tied his act in with the importance of reading and visiting the local library. Harlan was only one of many guests this month visiting Seminole as part of the library's summer reading program. (Sentinel photos)
