State Comptroller Glenn Hegar last week released his agency’s plan to support the expansion of broadband internet access to areas with limited or no access. Hegar and his agency’s Broadband Development Office received feedback through a series of town halls, virtual discussions and more than 16,000 responses to a survey.

Part One There is only one scenario where a sports team walks away from their last game, tournament or event with a victory. State championships, whether as a team or as an individual are extremely rare and so, then are the celebrations that follow such accomplishments.

Early risers in for a treat on June 24

Sky & Telescope, the science magazine published by the American Astronomical Society, states that it is not uncommon to see three planets close together; five lined up in order, however, is a rarity. All five planets were spotted on June 3 and 4 but could only be seen with binoculars for half an hour. On Friday, June 24, they will be easier to view. The magazine says the best time to see the lineup on June 24 is 45 minutes before sunrise on the eastern horizon.

Local second through sixth graders practiced and honed their football skills at the SISD clinic held June 20-23 at WigWam Stadium. Gaines County Unemployment Shows Slight Increase

The Texas Labor Market & Career Information Data for May was released on June 17. According to the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) Report, the unadjusted unemployment rate for Texas for May was 3.8 percent. Gaines County’s unemployment rate for May was 2.9 percent, up slightly from 2.7 in April.

Seminole residents take to the splash pad to cool off from the sweltering heat of West Texas. On the first day of the pad's opening this summer, over 300 children flocked to the facility at city park.

Funeral services for Rebecca Blanco, age 59 of Lubbock, Texas will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Seminole, Texas at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Ramirez officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
