Cornyn Joins Dems in Crafting Anti-Gun Legislation

After winning reelection handily in 2020, Texas Senator John Cornyn has until 2026 to stay camped out in the Washington swamp. It’ll be a while before the Houston RINO will have to drag those hand-crafted Lucchese cowboy boots out of the closet and do some welltimed skeet-shootin’ while he works on his y’alls and ain’ts.

“Sandy, do ya’ know where I left that dang Stetson, hon? Got a fundraiser in Midland.”

For now though, Cornyn can claim credibility with his “A+” rating with the NRA and announce that he’s part of a group of Republicans joining Democrats in imposing new gun restrictions in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting. With any Republican support at all, the new restrictions should sail through the Senate.

Cornyn has placed most of his stock in socalled “red flag laws,” which Governor Abbott fiddled around with for a while after the Parkland, Fla. school shootings. They essentially allow relatives to report unstable kin to the authorities so that guns may be confiscated without due process.

Existing red flag laws have mixed reviews, but they certainly haven’t stopped California from remaining at the top of the gun crime stats. My beef with them is that new laws don’t do any good if we don’t enforce the ones we have. We have systems in place to do what red flag laws do without involving the local constabulary, one of which is called Parenting 101.

Cornyn appeared via video feed at the Texas GOP convention in Houston last week and was roundly booed before he could get a word out. Cowboy John was ready for it though.

“I will not approve any restrictions for lawabiding gun owners, and that’s my red line,” said he. “And despite what some of you may have heard, that’s what our plan does.”

Quoting the late conservative thinker William F. Buckley, Cornyn added, “Someone needs to stand athwart history, yelling stop.”

Well, that kind’ve backfired. Each time Cornyn repeated some version of the message, attendees fired back, yelling “Stop!” Ouch. Tough crowd.

So Cornyn moved to safer ground with his thoughts on Critical Race Theory, crime rates, and pro-life legislation. He got claps.

Not one to avoid throwing a few boulders into the swamp, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton followed Cornyn’s exit and told the crowd, “We have some Republicans who are trying to run from the fight. We need to remember their names next time they’re on the ballot.”

I plan to, but first, while I know me some history, I need to figure out how to stand athwart it.

Soros Buying Up Spanish-Speaking Radio

I suppose the first time I started paying attention to George Soros was about the time the Hungarian-born billionaire hedge fund manager became a prominent supporter of Hillary Clinton during her run for the presidency. I’m sure his history of “philanthropy” goes back considerably further, but until then, he seemed to content himself with such noble pursuits as trying to crash the British pound for his own financial gain.

Since then, one doesn’t have to look far to find Soros (born Gyorgy Schwartz) and his considerable wealth providing support for the latest battle in his personal war against the U.S. There was the trail of money that led from the infamous “caravans” from south of our border, and the George Floyd rioters, that led straight back to Soros’s Open Society Foundation.

More recently, it has been some $40 million he’s spent on funding the campaigns of some 75 rogue leftist prosecutors across the country, while the bodies of their victims pile up. It should be a wakeup call to uninformed voters who are more dazzled by the flashy ads than they are with the substance of the candidates.

Now, with Hispanic voters leaving the Democrat party in droves, the old boy has another reason to lay awake at night. Republican Mayra Flores’ flipping of Texas’ 34th Congressional district, held by Democrats since the 1800’s, provided another major wakeup call.

A recent Quinnipiac poll shows Joe Biden’s support among Hispanic voters at 26%, so Soros has turned his attention to censoring or controlling the flow of information to Latinos.

Soros’s target, through his new Latino Media Network, is the $60 million purchase, through Soros Fund Management affiliate Lakestar Finance, of primarily conservative-leaning Spanish-speaking radio stations -- some 18 of them so far in the nation’s largest markets such as Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, McAllen, Fresno, Las Vegas, and Miami.

Corpus Christi actress/ immigration activist Eva Longoria is also an investor in the venture.

Five of those targeted stations are in Texas, and three are in Flores’ own Rio Grande Valley. Flores’ 34th district is 85 percent Hispanic, some with multi-generational roots in the RGV going back to the 1700’s.

Collectively, Latino Media Nework’s total intended coverage includes 20 million people -- 30 percent of the U.S. bi-lingual population, and 50 percent of the spanish-only population. Many of those have fled the ravages of communism in their native Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and elsewhere.

That’s 20 million more who the group hopes to divert from their current goal of assimilation, to one of victimization and dependence. It has worked famously in the black community which, while slipping in its support of Biden, still remains largely under Democrat control.

It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to understand why Soros would want to change the messaging to an emerging centerright block of voters who are put off by the extremism of the Left. It is the ideological suppression of free speech, to control the flow of information by claiming to control “disinformation.”

Soros has put two hard Left activists in charge of his new media group, two women, that is, who have no experience in radio or any kind of broadcast journalism. They are Stephanie Valencia, a former Obama staffer, and Jess Morales Rocketto, a Clinton campaign worker and longtime associate of the Marxist founder of Black Lives Matter, Alicia Garza.

These stations won’t likely broadcast Garza’s long-time relationship with Cuba’s dictatorial government. Nor will they mention that Rocketto has called for the dismantling of American society, and encouraged Latinos to take their orders from BLM and join rioters in 2020, and earlier during the Ferguson, Missouri riots of 2014.

At least one of Soros’s planned “acquisitions” is Radio Mambi’, a Spanish-language talk radio station in Miami, which has employees threatening a mass mutiny if the purchase gets official FCC approval. This, even with the new group attempting to stem the tide by offering news anchors and other key employees $120,000 bonuses to stay until the deal is finalized.

At least one anchor is on record as saying that Soros can put his $120K where the sun doesn’t shine.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is already combating the Soros takeover, submitting a PSA, “Alerta,” (“Warning”) to run on two Miami radio stations. DeSantis warns that the left is “taking control of our local media” and targeting the Hispanic community to spread “disinformation” over their airwaves.
