Seminole ISD Set Board Campus Assignments, Goals for 2018-19

Members of the Seminole ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent, coined by the school district as the "Team of 8," agreed to board member campus assignments and goals for the fall and spring semesters at the July board meeting.

The purpose behind the assignments is to be a physical presence and support on each of the six campuses. Each board member will be assigned two campuses in a given school year; one assignment per semester. Over the course of a three year term, he/she will serve as a committed liaison for each campus.

A criminal case originally being investigated by the Gaines County Sheriff's Office related to an early July 29 law enforcement pursuit where an alleged shot was fired at GCSO deputy has been handed over to investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Gaines County Sheriff Ronny Pipkin confirmed on Thursday the case had been transferred under the purview of the federal agency for possible federal prosecution on the federal level.

GCSO: Hobbs Man Jailed for Theft of Tractor

A 25-year-old Hobbs, N.M. man remains incarcerated in the Gaines County Law Enforcement Center in lieu of bonds associated with a theft of property charge stemming from a stolen tractor incident.

According to a press release issued by the Gaines County Sheriff's office, 25-year-old Brandon Bates, 25, of Hobbs, N.M., was arrested Wednesday and charged for theft of property (over $150,000 and less than $330,00), listed as being a second-degree felony under the Texas Penal Code.

Odessa Man Identified as Person Killed in July 13 Gaines Co. Fatal Accident

A 46-year-old Odessa man was identified in a Texas Dept. of Public Safety accident report as being killed in a three-vehicle accident which occurred on the evening of July 13 in northern Gaines County.

Elias Hernandez, 46, of Odessa was identified in the report, obtained Wednesday evening by the Seminole Sentinel through an accident report database operated by the Texas DPS.

LOVINGTON — Lea County’s newest district judge, Michael Stone, celebrated his formal investiture Friday afternoon inside a packed and hot courtroom.

Stone has been on the job for about a month, but took time Friday at the Lea County Courthouse to take a more formal oath from fellow district judge Kea Riggs of Chaves County as his wife Willie Stone stood by his side. He then donned his black judge robes and spoke to the large crowd in attendance, which made the event standing room only.
