Funeral services for Vicente Saavedra, age 94 of Seminole were held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Templo Nazareth (Spanish Assembly of God Church) with Pastor Porfirio Rodriguez, Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Gaines County Cemetery. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.

Vicente Saavedra was born March 28, 1924 in Mexico to Vicente and Julia Saavedra. He married Maria Lopez on September 12, 1942 in Mexico. He was a Catholic. On March 16, 1962 he brought his wife and his six daughters from Monterrey, Mexico for a better life and education to the U.S.A. His daughters describe him as a very hard working dad. He worked as a farmer for many years and would go to New York to work on the crops. He also worked for Gaines County Golf Course as a greenskeeper for many years. Vicente loved the outdoors. He enjoyed growing his own garden, hunting, fishing, and family gatherings.

Vicente Saavedra passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Maria Saavedra in January 6, 2016; one daughter, Gabriela Saavedra in 1951; one great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Salazar in 2007; two brothers and three sisters and three son-in-laws.

He is survived by; six daughters, Nicolasa Jaquez of Seminole, Martha Friesen of Seminole, Francisca Rodriquez and husband Porfirio of Del Rio, Vicenta Saavedra of Lubbock, Armandina Munguia and husband Frank Gutierrez of Seminole and Ofelia Rodriquez of Seminole. He is also survived by his first granddaughter Janie Saavedra Jimenez that he loved dearly and treated her as one of his own daughters of Seminole; one sister Refugia Lopez of Mexico; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
