Two Additional Deaths in Gaines County

On Monday, Nov. 30, the South Plains Public Health District confirmed two new COVID-19 related deaths in Gaines County. As of press time on Tuesday, the total number of cases in Gaines County since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic is 964.

Currently, the death total in Gaines County is 15, with 351 COVID cases still active and 598 recoveries. According to SPPHD executive director Zack Holbrooks, before confirming and reporting a COVID death, the health department must have legal documentation proving that coronavirus was responsible for the individual’s demise. “We have to have proof, some sort of document stating the cause of death; we we can’t go by ‘sayso,’” Holbrooks explained.

Dawson County has had 1205 positive cases of COVID and 13 deaths. Of those cases, 386 are still active, and 806 have recovered. Terry County reports 956 confirmed cases with 291 remaining active, 640 having recovered, and 25 deaths. Seven COVID deaths have been confirmed in Yoakum County since the beginning of the pandemic and 621 positive cases. The county has 152 residents who still have the virus and 462 who have recovered.

In Lynn County, there have been four deaths, a total of 376 cases, 245 recoveries, and 127 individuals in which the coronavirus is currently active.
