SPPHD Reports Two More COVID-19 Deaths

In what many doctors and scientists are calling a second wave, the South Plains Public Health District confirmed 52 new positive COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths in Gaines County between Monday, Oct. 19 and press time on Friday, Oct. 23. Currently, there have been a total of nine COVID related deaths in Gaines County.

The health district reported on Friday morning Gaines County has had 503 COVID-19 cases; 122 of those remain active and 373 have recovered. Dawson County’s total is at 787 with 235 active, 544 recovered and eight deaths. The Terry County COVID-19 update shows 493 total cases,182 active, 304 recovered, and seven deaths. Lynn County has had 163 total cases. Of those, 47 remain active, 112 have recovered, and there were four deaths. The total cases in Yoakum County is 289 with 30 active cases, 255 recoveries, and four of those patients have died.

SISD is keeping track of COVID-19 cases within the district. Due to the low amount of students and faculty testing positive for the coronavirus and in an effort to get many students back on track academically, the school board voted Monday evening to discontinue distance learning effective Nov. 2.
