Graveside services for Leon Bagwell, age 82 of Loop will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Loop Cemetery with Pastor Tony Pitcox officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole. The family greeted visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Leon was born February 24, 1938 in Loop to Flora Mae (Ellyson) and Luther Elbert Bagwell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Loop and was a lifelong resident. Leon married Glenda Kay Walters on December 23, 1961 in Loop. He worked for Gaines County as the caretaker for Seagraves and Loop cemeteries for 22 years; he was also a farmer. Music was always a vital part of Leon’s life, even at an early age. He played guitar, and often played at family gatherings and friends’ homes. Once he started college at Texas Tech in 1956, he met other musicians. He played with Tommy Sands & The Sharks right out of college, and with Don Allen & The Sunset Ramblers in Lubbock. He joined Ronny Rayburn and Talk of the Town, and they played at many local and area events. Later on, Leon served as the music director for First Baptist Church in Loop for many years.

Leon Bagwell passed away December 22, 2020 at Brownfield Rehab Center in Brownfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kerry; and one brother, Doyle Gene Bagwell.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Glenda of Loop; one son, Kevin Bagwell of Seminole; one daughter, Cheryl Dunlap and husband Terry of Lubbock; one sister, Linda Draper of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Blake Alan Dunlap and wife Jessica, Lindsey K’Lyn Dunlap, Jarrett Lee Bagwell, and Jason Ron Bagwell; one great-grandson, Porter Ridge Dunlap; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
