Kenneth J. Selman

Kenneth J. Selman, 86, of Alamogordo, NM, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2022. Unfortunately, Kenneth lost his life after a year long struggle with coronary artery disease.

Kenneth was born on May 14, 1936, to Henry Samuel and Ara (Robinson) Selman in Abilene, TX and is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marda (Floyd) Selman. They have two sons, Randy and wife Renee Selman of Fredericksburg, TX, and Donny and wife Shaunie Selman of Odessa, TX. Four grandchildren Duffy King, Anchorage, AK, Coy and wife Tasha Selman of Conroe, TX, Mitch Selman, Midland TX, Kody and wife Niqita Selman of San Antonio, TX. There are also eight great grandchildren.

After 15 years of working across the Permian Basin in drilling and production of oil and gas wells, Kenneth changed careers and graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Highway Patrolman in August 1968. Kenneth spent 25 years as a State Trooper in Seminole, Gaines County Texas. Kenneth was a part of several special DPS Operations Teams. He also was a DPS certified pistol instructor and a Special Texas Ranger as well.

After 25 years of service to the Texas DPS, Kenneth and Marda retired in the cooler climates of Cloudcroft and High Rolls, NM. Kenneth and Marda loved spending a large part of their summers fishing at Williams Creek Lake, CO, and feeding hundreds of humming birds and deer at their home in High Rolls, NM. Both Kenneth and Marda were members of the Community United Methodist Church of Haynes Canyon, NM, and Kenneth was a 20-year Trustee for this church.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father and mother, brother GW Selman and wife Margaret, and sister Berta Mae Robinson all of Abilene, TX.

Family and Friends visitation will be held in the Ratliff Funeral Home on Thursday May 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held in the First Baptist Church on Friday May 6th at 2:00 p.m. with Reverand Joe Stewart officiating followed by an honorary gravesite service in the Gaines County South Cemetery.
