Memorial services for John W. Hood, 96, will be conducted Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlie Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gaines County Cemetery with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole. He passed away May 3, 2019 in Lubbock.

John was born April 18, 1923 to Jahue George Washington and Carrie Addoline Fox Hood. John and Geraldyne L. Acker were married August 10, 1949 in Red Rock, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1949 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1940 to 1945 where he served as Master Technical Sergeant and was the instructor for the Original 29 Navajo Code Talkers during World War II. John was a Mechanical Engineer and was employed as Director of Research Engineering for 38 years for Continental Baking Company. He was preceded in death by two brothers J.B. and Eugene Hood, and one sister Joyce Gray.

John is survived by his wife of more than 69 years Geraldyne Hood of Seminole; three daughters Sharon Hansen of Harrisonville, New Jersey, Suzan Harris and April Harris of East Brunswick, New Jersey, and Jerri Foster and husband Douglas of Seminole; one sister Joanna Lovell and husband Oren of Spiro, Oklahoma; along with six grandchildren Jason Hansen, Erik Hansen, Christina Latriano, John Roberts, Devon Foster and Tyrel Foster; and also eleven great-grandchildren.
