Graveside services for John Thompson, age 75 of Odessa, were held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Gaines County Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Clark Racca officiating and Minister Lynn Money assisting. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Gaines County Museum or Hospice of Midland. John Thompson was born in Lubbock on July 3, 1942 to Betty (McCleskey) and John Thompson. He married Genelle Hamilton in Odessa, March 31, 2018. He was a member of the Church of Christ and worked as a machinist. John made and machined live steam engines, as well as tools for the oilfield and railroad. He also taught machinist skills at Odessa College and was a CNC Machinist. He was very enthusiastic and had a great sense of humor. He always had a positive attitude, loved being around people and was an upbeat kind of man. John Thompson was the grandson of one of the founding families of Seminole and Gaines County, J.B. and Ida Thompson. John Thompson passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his home, The Parks Senior Living, in Odessa. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Genelle Thompson of Odessa; one son John Lee Thompson of Odessa; one stepson David Allen Felio of Plano; three stepdaughters Christina Felio of Aurora, Mary Galeas and husband Eduin Pedilla of Mesquite, Sharlene Rene Sessions and husband Daryl of Dublin, California; two sisters Vicky Clark and husband Bob of Seminole, Kathy Davis and husband Dave of Seminole; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. A memorial was held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at The Parks Senior Living Plaza Building, located at 241 Parks Village Drive in Odessa, Texas. Minister Lynn Money will officiate.
