Funeral services for Guadalupe “Lupe” H. Betancourt Jr. were held, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. James Catholic Church with Father Jose De Dios officiating; interment followed in the Gaines County Cemetery, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.

Lupe passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in Lamesa.

He was born January 8, 1944 to Guadalupe Sr. and Josephina Hernandez Betancourt in San Benito. He married the love of his life 51 years ago Maria Casarez, January 10, 1970 in Lamesa. Lupe was employed with Seminole Independent School District for over 31 years in the Maintenance Department until he retired in 2013. Lupe was awarded a U.S. Flag that flew over the Capitol for his 31 years of employment with the Seminole Independent School District. Lupe was a wonderful husband, awesome father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to many. He loved his wife and family dearly. Lupe will be missed by many but will remain in our hearts forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Lupe is survived by his wife Maria Betancourt; three sons Ricardo “Rick” and wife Kristy, Roberto “Robert” and wife Krista, Michael Guadalupe and wife Adrienne; three daughters Mary Ann Cardona, Cecilia Contreras and husband Anthony, Lucinda Valle and husband Daniel; two brothers Lorenzo Betancourt and Ramiro Betancourt and one sister Paula Betancourt along with 17 grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
