Gaines County COVID Death Total at 11

The South Plains Public Health District confirmed a new death this week in Gaines County due to COVID-19 bringing the county’s total to eleven. According to the Texas Tribune, “As of Nov. 19 Texas has now reported over 20,000 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began. Meanwhile, the state reported over 12,000 new cases on Thursday, as the average daily tests have increased 35% since the beginning of October. COVID-19 hospitalizations are also up, having more than doubled over the same time period.”

Currently, Gaines County has had a total of 856 positive cases. Of those cases, 341 remain active and there have been 504 recoveries. Dawson County reached 1141 this week with 415 active cases and 717 recovered; they have had nine deaths. Terry County has had 21 fatalities due to COVID-19 and 882 positive cases. Yoakum County reported a total of 568 since the start of the pandemic with 215 of those remaining active and 347 recovered. There have been six COVID-related deaths in Yoakum County. The COVID-19 update for Lynn County, as reported by the SPPHD, shows 301 cases, 124 individuals still active with the virus, and 173 recovered. Four deaths there have been confirmed.

The Texas Tribune also reports that on Nov. 19, there were at least 7,982 hospitalized patients in Texas with confirmed coronavirus infections. This data does not account for people who are hospitalized but have not gotten a positive test, and the Texas Department of State Health Services says some hospitals may be missing from the daily counts. Unofficial results indicate that five individuals are currently in Seminole Memorial Hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19.
