LAMESA -- Visitation for Donald H. Stephens, 88, of Lamesa, was held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Branon Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm. Private burial will be held at Dawson County Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Adams officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

Don passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020, in Lubbock.

Don was born January 1, 1932 in Lubbock to Sidney Lewis and Willie Briggs Stephens. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1949. He graduated from Texas Tech University in May 1954.While attending Tech, he spent time in the Marine Reserves. He then served two years in the US Army as an auditor while getting his Masters from Texas Tech in 1956. During this time he lived in Seattle, Washington where he did audit work for air bases in five states.

He married Donnie Marie Parker in Seminole on December 20, 1958. They were married 59 years. She preceded him in death September 13, 2017. He was a CPA in Lamesa for 53 years, while also serving as Dawson County Auditor for 43 years. He and his family were members of First Baptist Church. Don had served as an active member of Lamesa Rotary, Lamesa Chamber and Kiwanas. When he wasn’t crunching numbers, he enjoyed flying and farming.

Don is survived by his two daughters Deann Freeman of Phoenix, and D’Linda Law of Nashville, and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Willie Stephens; sisters, Stella Reven and Mary Ann Kidd; and brothers, S.L. Stephens, and Shirley Stephens.
