Active COVID Cases Locally Continue to Decrease

While many Texas counties are experiencing an upswing in COVID-19 cases, Gaines County has had 1,144 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, and active numbers are now down to 71.

Gaines County, according to the Census Bureau, is estimated to have a population of 17,641. Using those numbers, 6.48% of the county’s inhabitants have contracted the virus; .09% of those with COVID-19 died.

According to updates on the Seminole ISD website, since the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, 103 students have tested positive for COVID-19. Ninety-five of those have recovered, and eight remain active. The graph also indicates 87 staff members contracted the virus; 78 have recovered, and nine are still active.
