7th COVID-19 Death Reported in Gaines County

The South Plains Public Health District confirmed Gaines County’s seventh death due to COVID-19 on Monday, Sept. 21. Currently, 36 cases remain active in the county, and 274 individuals have recovered of the 317 total.

According to the SISD website, a teacher at the primary school tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, Sept. 18, and the administration has worked in conjunction with local health officials to conduct contact They also reached out privately to any impacted families and staff. The employee has remained in selfquarantine since Friday.

Schools were closed on Monday due to teacher training; the department thoroughly disinfected all areas of the Seminole Primary Building at that time.

Seminole ISD Administration was also notified that an employee at the SISD Auxiliary Building tested positive for COVID-19. The employee self-isolated beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16, as a precautionary measure, awaiting results of potential positive exposure. He/she performed a rapid test Friday afternoon. Friday evening, the employee notified the SISD Administration of the COVID testing and positive result. That employee has also remained in self-quarantine since Friday.

In additional news related to the virus, Curid oral swab tests to detect COVID-19 will be administered by the Texas National Guard at the Seagraves Community Building, 515 14th Street, on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. An alternate (inclement weather) site is the Seagraves - Loop Volunteer Fire Department at the corner of F St. and 9th St. in Seagraves. There is no charge for the test, and results are usually back in 24 to 36 hours.
