7/12 Yard of the Week 2020

A short drive down Lamesa Hwy, to 121 CR 405 N to be exact, will take you to the home and gardens of Susie and Peter Doerksen and their five children, Sarah, Daniel, Jason, Bryan, Logan, and Levi. The Doerksen’s homestead is the Seminole Sentinel’s first Yard/Garden of the Week for July and the winner of a $25 gift certificate from Blumenflor. Their front yard is home to a well-kept garden and hothouse featuring corn, beets, peas, green beans, radishes, squash, tomatoes, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and peppers. It is also blooming with a bright array of summer colors. There are hydrangeas, various types of Zinnias, Cosmos, Holly Hocks, Baby’s Breath, Dahlias, Bachelor Buttons, Morning Glories, and m ing with an array of bright, summer couch draped in shades of pink, yellow, orange, and purple, “It’s my therapy,” said Susie Doerksen. “I’m usually out here in the morning at eight o’clock and spend several hours in the garden. My husband wants plants everywhere, and we’re just about to run out of the room,” she said. The Gaines County resident and Lubbock native added that her mother had a green thumb. By the looks of it, Susie has been blessed with one of her own.
