Two Dead in Monday Morning Accident

Two local residents died Monday morning, Dec. 27, in a traffic accident at the intersection of County Road 205 and 206, three miles northwest of Seminole. According to Sergeant Steven Blanco with the DPS safety education and media communications in Midland, Jerry Cornett, age 66, of Seminole, and Marcus Hernandez, a 22-year-old male also from Seminole, were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Calvin Sellers. Omar Ontiveros, age 29, of Denver City, was also involved in the accident but was uninjured.

Seagraves Council approves signature of $1,280,000 USDA loan

During the Seagraves City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 13, Mayor Rick Dollahan announced he had met with representatives from USDA concerning the loan resolution for the new Seagraves City Hall and needed permission from the council to sign the document for the 40-year loan. The council unanimously approved the signing of the loan valued at $1,280,000.

Vaccine Clinics planned for Seminole

This month, the Seminole Branch of the South Plains Public Health Department and the Seminole Hospital District will hold COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

Adult Ed registration set

Registration for classes at the Seminole Adult Learning Center will be held on August 10 from 9 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 700 SW Ave C in Seminole.

7The Gaines County Library, located at 706 Hobbs Hwy, is temporarily closed for improvements. According to Sabra Hall, the library should reopen in several weeks. During the closure, the Seagraves Branch will remain open. Borrowed items can be returned to the book drop at the library in Seminole or at the Seagraves location; due dates are being extended for two weeks as is the Winter Adult Reading Program. The Seagraves Branch of the Gaines County Library is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed noon-1 p.m.) and is located at 311 Hill Street in Seagraves. The Seminole librarians will be available during repairs by calling 432-758-4007, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. 6p.m.
