Sixth case of Covid-19 confirmed

The South Plains Public Health District has confirmed the sixth case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Gaines County. This newest case, reported on May 18, came from a female between the ages of 50-59. At this time, the source of exposure is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.In Gaines County, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed on March 27, a woman between the ages of 30-39. The second case was on April 1 and was a male between 50 and 59 years old. A May 4 case (identified as case #3) was a female between the age of 90-99. On May 7, another female, confirmed case number four, was under the age of 20. Case number five was a male between the ages of 30-39. All investigations, except for case number six, are complete.

COVID-19 Fifth Case Reported by SPPHD

On Wednesday, May 13, The South Plains Public Health District confirmed the 5th case of novel coronavirus (CO- VID-19) in Gaines County. It was determined that the source of exposure happened outside of Gaines County, and the SPPHD will continue monitoring the individual as indicated by the CDC.

A fourth case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in Gaines County, according to a press release from the South Plains Health District. The district confirms that, at present, the source of exposure remains unknown. An investigation is ongoing.

County Receives the Go Ahead to Open at 50%

On April 27, 2020 Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-18. You may view GA-18 on the Gaines County webpage. There is also a 64-page report, that is referenced in GA-18, that includes further guidance to open up Texas and is also available on the county webpage, entitled "The Govenor's Report to Open Texas." GA-18 authorized retail stores and restaurants to open at 25% capacity on May 1, 2020.

                    Gov. Greg Abbott will allow hair salons in Texas to reopen Friday — and gyms will be allowed to open May 18.

The businesses will be required to follow certain rules, however, as the state continues to grapple with the novel coronavirus. For example, hair stylists will only be able to work with one customer at a time, while gyms can only reopen at 25% capacity, and their showers and locker rooms should remain closed for now.

COVID-19 Testing Planned for Seminole

The Texas Department of Emergency Management, Texas Military Department is hosting a free test collection in Seminole on Friday, May 8, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the west side of city hall. The testing for COVID-19 is being provided per Governor Abbott’s mandate to increase screening for opening up Texas, said Gaines County Judge Tom Keyes.

Memorial Hospital Drive-Thru Clinic Discontinued; Confirmed Cases Remain at Two

Since a second case of COVID-19 in Seminole was confirmed, local testing to date has yielded negative results, according to Seminole Memorial Hospital CEO Larry Gray. Gray also told the Sentinel that hospital policy has yet to be affected by Governor Abbott’s more relaxed sixth Disaster Declaration, a phasedin approach to reopening Texas businesses.
