Memorial services for Betty Joe Golmon, age 88, of Seminole, began with a burial service on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Gaines County Cemetery in Seminole with Pastor Ed Weagle officiating; a life celebration service followed at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers please make donations to Gaines County Museum, First Presbyterian Church or a place of your choice.
Mrs. Golmon passed away Sunday October 20, 2013 at Seminole Health Care Center in Seminole. She was born March 11, 1925 in Cisco to Esta (Williams) and Jerry Reed. She graduated from Mentone High School in 1944 and attended a secretarial business school for two years in Kansas. She married John C. Golmon September 15, 1950.
Betty worked as the secretary for Mr. F.J. Young, Seminole ISD Superintendent, from 1952 to 1990 and then retired. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and Squares Bible study and fellowship group. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Seminole Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (pink ladies). She was a talented cook, homemaker, and seamstress, and loved her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, John Golmon in 2007; one brother, Jack Reed; two sisters, Edna Reed Clayton Dewees, and Loraine Reed Austin; one niece, Connie Reed Smith; and one nephew Jim Clayton.
Betty Golmon is survived by one sister-in-law Aileen Golom Hoggett of Orange, one nephew Pat Reed and wife Nancy of League City, four nieces JeriAnn Clayton Blair and husband Billy of Del Rio, Judy Clayton London of Gainesville, Cheryl Clayton Fletcher of San Angelo, Susie Clayton Winters and husband Doug of Corsicana, eight great-nephews Steve Blair and wife Brenda of Harper, Jay London and wife Holly of Greenville, Brody Cagle of San Angelo, Ryan Joiner of Corsicana, Tyler Joiner and wife Kristin of Edgewood, Chad Joiner and wife Macie of Terrell, Clay Smith, Colie Smith, four great-nieces Karen Blair Cypert of Midland, Jackie London Brenda and husband Kevin of Tempe, Arizona, Jennifer Reed, Laura Reed and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
