Funeral services for Jose N. Ortega, Sr. age 86 of Seminole were held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Family Harvest Church with Pastor Tod Delay officiating.  Burial followed at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery.  All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mr. Ortega passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Seminole. He was born July 15, 1926 to Leogarda (Navarette) and Crespin Ortega in Alpine.  He married Genoveva Ramirez on January 3, 1944 in Alpine.  Mr. Ortega had been a resident of Seminole for the past fifty-five years.  He was a Baptist and a retiree from the City of Seminole.
Jose Ortega was a very upbeat person. He enjoyed playing jokes on people and would chase them around with his cane.  He liked watching the television show "Bonanza” and enjoyed eating Cheetos and Milk Duds with his Dr. Pepper. Al his grandchildren called him "Po.” He is preceded in death by his wife Genoveva in 2011; his parents, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by three sons, Jose R. Ortega, Jr. and wife Lupe of Midland, Eloy Ortega of Seminole, Ben Ortega and wife Ofelia of Carlsbad, N.M.; four daughters, Virginia Barron and husband Cruz of Seminole, Odelia Espino of Seminole, Nelda Martinez and husband Juan of Seminole, Olivia Grado and husband Samuel of Seminole; one sister, Margaret Avila of Seminole; 32 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
