The Seminole Maiden's varsity volleyball team traveled to Lubbock over the weekend and won the Silver Bracket Championship in the Frenship Tournament by defeating Abilene Cooper.  

 The Maidens lost to Dumas, the eventual Gold Bracket champions, in the  early round, 25-27, 16-25,  and then Defeated Princeton 25-20, 25-7.  El Paso Irvin was the next victim, the Maidens won 25-10, 25-12.  All this was on Friday, Aug. 29.  

On Saturday Aug 30, they took on Lubbock Cooper, a familiar foe from when we were in the same conference, and overcome them 25-17, 25-21.  They then battled Midland Lee in a hard fought contest but were victorious, 26-28, 25-19, 25-17.  This set them up to battle Abilene Cooper for the Silver Bracket Championship and the Maidens defeated them 25-17, 25-21.

The Maidens lost only one contest in the tournament and it was to Dumas.  They walked away with a 21-3  record for the year so far with all their losses coming to 5A or 6A schools..

In the championship match, Kendall Freeman had 8 serves, 2 aces, 1 assist, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 11 digs and 11 kills.

Julie Nave delivered 2 serves, 12 assists, 4 digs and 1 kill.

Lindsey Wimmer accounted for 7 serves, 1 assist, and 7 digs.

Susan Reimer had 5 serves, 2 assists, 1 block assist, 9 digs and 11 kills.

Alyssa Carnes, 1 solo block, 1 block assist, 2 digs and 2 kills.

Eva Reimer produced 1 serve, and 4 digs.

Melanie Sendejo had 2 block assists and 2 kills.

Jodie Vaughn had 3 digs.

Amanda Peters had 4 block assists and 2 digs.

Lexee Shain took care of 2 serves, 12 assists, 3 digs and 1 kill.

Abby Navarro had 3 digs.

So far this year, the varsity Maidens have lived up to, or surpassed the expectations the coaches had for them.  They are not as tall as some of the teams they have met, but they make up for it with hustle and desire.  It is clear they believe they can win and this usually translates into a victory.  They are a joy to watch

The varsity Maidens have an open date September 2.  There will be  a Lamesa JV Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6.  

The Maiden's next match will be at  Midnland on Saturday Sept. 9, against Midland Lee (varsity only) at 1:00 pm.

The ninth grade team will play in the Lamesa 9th Tournament on that Saturday TBA.

The next home game will be against Midland High (9th/Var &JV Duel).  5:00/6:00 and Var. MG.
